In-house training provides participants with a more in depth training experience because the courses last 2.5 – 3.0 hours each and there is the opportunity to interact with the instructor and other participants, thereby providing an ideal learning experience.

Course List & Description

#1 Insurance: Terminology, Issues And Problems
  • This course provides basic information on property and liability insurance from the perspective of a commercial lender, servicer or owner.
  • Key insurance terminology is explained, including Coinsurance, Replacement Cost, Actual Cash Value, Ordinance and Law; Agreed Amount and other terms and definitions encountered by commercial lenders and servicing personnel.
  • Certificates of Insurance and Evidence of Insurance (ACORD 75, 25, 28 and 27) are reviewed and discussed.
  • The course also explains insurance carrier ratings; discusses common and not so common problems encountered by commercial lenders and servicers, such as Terrorism and Mold; and, concludes with a Case Study tying the various topics together.
  • The course is interactive with questions and ideas discussed throughout the training session.
  • A PowerPoint presentation is utilized as a course outline.
  • Participants receive a Workbook containing all material covered during the session.
  • Duration: approximately 2.5 – 3 hours.
#2 Insurance Policy Analysis and Certificate Review

  • This course examines five commercial insurance policies typically encountered in commercial real estate: Property and Liability “package”; Boiler and Machinery; Umbrella Liability; Excess Liability; and, Environmental.
  • The policies are reviewed as to what is covered; exclusions; general conditions; and endorsements affecting coverage. 
  • The course then moves into how insurance certificates should be reviewed to make sure the coverage required is clearly stated on the certificates. 
  • The course studies the ACORD 28, Evidence of Commercial Property Insurance, ACORD 27, Evidence of Property Insurance, ACORD 25, Certificate of Liability Insurance, and ACORD 75, Insurance Binder.
  • Other types of certificates besides ACORD are also discussed. The course is interactive with questions and ideas discussed throughout the training session. 
  • A PowerPoint presentation is utilized as a course outline.  Participants receive a Workbook containing policy samples, certificate samples and an outline of the presentation suitable for note taking and future reference. 
  • Duration: approximately 2.5 – 3 hours.

#3 Catastrophic Insurance Issues: wind, flood, earthquake and terrorism

    • This course examines insurance issues related to natural and man made catastrophes including Wind, Flood, Earthquake and Terrorism. 
    • These catastrophic perils are examined in terms of their source and potential magnitude; insurance coverage available in the commercial insurance market; reinsurance market support; and, recommendations are provided as to how lenders and servicers should monitor borrowers as to these catastrophic insurance coverages.
    • The course is interactive with questions and ideas discussed throughout the training session. 
    • A PowerPoint presentation is utilized as a course outline.  Participants receive a Workbook containing samples of insurance coverages utilized by insurance industry and an outline of the presentation suitable for note taking and future reference. 
  • Duration: approximately 2.5 – 3 hours.

Cost of Course

$1,750 professional fee for current clients; $3,500 for others.  In addition, all travel and workbook expenses are reimbursable.
